Japanese video game company Capcom released the Android port of its classic platformer Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, simply called Ghouls’n Ghosts MOBILE. Originally launched in 1988 for arcade machines in the Far East, Ghouls ‘n Ghosts gained a reputation of being one of the most challenging action platform games of its time, and the Classic gameplay mode of its Android port seemingly isn’t any less forgiving than its seminal predecessor was; Sir Arthur is just as vulnerable as he was in the original game, the enemies are equally deadly and plentiful as they were in the late ’80s, and Capcom even added extra boss battles to the game.
The touch screen controls work reasonably well though they still can’t replace physical controllers, arguably making the Classic gameplay mode even harder than it once was seeing how Ghouls’n Ghosts MOBILE is just as fast-paced as the original Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. For one reason or another, the vanilla version of the game doesn’t support physical controllers and it’s currently unclear whether Capcom has any plans of implementing that functionality into some future build of Ghouls’n Ghosts MOBILE. On the bright side, the Android version of the cult classic does ship with some additional content apart from the aforementioned extra boss fights as Sir Arthur is now capable of firing projectiles directly above and below himself while in the air and has access to a wider variety of gear, namely the Golden Armor set that allows players to charge their weapons and activate special magical attacks.
Anyone who’s struggling with the Classic gameplay mode of Ghouls’n Ghosts MOBILE can try the Casual one that’s somewhat more forgiving, though it’s still far from easy. This release comes just over two months after Capcom launched the Android remake of the original Ghosts ‘n Goblins that preceded Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. The Japanese entertainment company is expected to launch more of its cult classics on mobile devices in the near future and an update on its efforts to do so will likely follow shortly. In the meantime, Android gamers can purchase Ghouls’n Ghosts MOBILE from the Google Play Store for a one-time fee of $0.99.
