Google I/O 2017 Day 2 Wrap Up: Android Pay, Google Assistant, & More

Day 2 of Google I/O 2017 has completed and Google will be moving into the third and final day of the conference tomorrow, but before that happens we’ve got all of the details on day 2 rounded up just in case you happened to miss anything while it was going on. Since yesterday was the Keynote speech and most of the bigger announcements happened on the first day, today has seen less announcements in general and ones that weren’t as monumental for the world of Google and Android. That said there was still plenty of exciting things to see. For example, Google demoed the act of being able to send money to users through Google Assistant. For those that are fond of the digital assistant that Google has baked into the Pixel and Pixel XL, if you ever need to send money to a friend things are about to get a whole lot easier.

All users have to do is activate Google Assistant and then ask it to send money, tell it the amount, and who to send it to, and that’s it. Well, save for Google Assistant confirming with you the card that you want it to use for payment, but other than that the process is pretty fast and simple, and the whole thing is hands-free. Also in the payments realm, Google and Weebly announced a partnership that will see all of Weebly’s eCommerce sites integrate Android Pay soon as a new form of payment for shoppers, making the checkout process a quick and painless one.

Today saw some Google Home-related announcements, with LG unveiling a new range of appliance products that will be compatible with Google Home, all of which are part of LG’s latest Signature line. Of course, there were lots of new bits and pieces of information on Android O as well seeing as how Google launched the second developer preview yesterday while also launching the Android O Beta Program. Google also announced new developer tools for Daydream 2.0, which includes the ability for high fidelity rendering using mobile VR hardware. Also new with Daydream is that users will soon be able to cast their Daydream sessions onto the big screen thanks to upcoming support for Chromecast, and there’s a Daydream version of the Chrome browser on the way. If you happened to miss any of the stories from Google I/O’s second day, you can find them all in the links down below.
