High Demand For BlackBerry KEYone, Resulting In Stock Issues

The BlackBerry KEYone only became available to buy earlier today in North America, and it already seems as though the reception and general level of interest in the device on launch day has proven to be good. According to TCL’s North American President & GM, Steve Cistulli, “demand has been extremely high.” In some respects, maybe even too high as it now seems the demand has led to stock issues for some.

Cistulli made the comment as part of a string of Tweets sent out earlier today. As well as confirming that demand has been high, Cistulli notes that it has been “encouraging” to see such a level of “excitement and momentum” for the launch of the latest BlackBerry smartphone. Although the launch has gone so well that it has led to some having trouble in actually being able to purchase the device. As part of the same Twitter string, Cistulli, also acknowledged that a number of customers had been facing issues with stock when trying to check out. With Cistulli advising that “we’re working closely with our retail partners” to deal with the situation and replenish stock. Although no firm details were provided on when more stock could be expected, with Cistulli simply noting that it is the intention to have additional stock “available ASAP.”

As for the phone itself, this is the latest BlackBerry phone to come through running on Android. The BlackBerry KEYone looks to provide a familiar experience to traditional BlackBerry users, as it is another BlackBerry device that includes a physical keyboard – much like the PRIV. Although the keyboard has seen a number of improvements to modernize the experience and provide a more in-tune experience with a device that boasts a touch screen. As for the general specs, the BlackBerry KEYone includes a 4.5-inch display with a 1620 x 1080 resolution. As well as 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. In addition to a 12-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, expandable storage support, a 3,505 mAh battery, and Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) pre-installed. As for the price, when it is available, the KEYone costs $549.99 in the US.
