A leak is currently circulating that details the specs of the Sony Xperia XZ1, the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact, and the Sony Xperia X1. The first two devices, the Sony Xperia XZ1 and the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact, will have similar internal hardware. The devices are claimed to have the Snapdragon 835 processor, the latest flagship SoC from Qualcomm. This SoC should deliver one of the best possible compute and graphics performance in a smartphone today. Both devices are also expected to have 4GB of RAM, which will still be enough for many users despite the rising number of smartphones sporting 6GB of RAM.
The major differences between the two smartphones are screen size, display resolution, and battery capacity. The Sony Xperia XZ1 sports a 5.2-inch 1080p display, with the battery capacity measured at 3,000mAh. Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact continues the Japanese manufacturer’s tradition of releasing handsets with flagships specs in a small form-factor. This device is expected to sport a 4.6-inch 720p display, with a 2,800mAh battery powering it. Despite the smaller battery size, the relatively low resolution of the smartphone display should still result in an acceptable, if not good, battery life.
Aside from its flagships, the leak also reports the possible specs of the Sony Xperia X1. This device is expected to be positioned as Sony’s premium mid-range offering and the successor to the Sony Xperia X. The handset will be equipped with the Snapdragon 660, a mid-range chipset offering from Qualcomm. This new processor is manufactured on a smaller, more energy-efficient process than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 653, which should result in improved battery life and better performance for the device. Like its more premium siblings, the Sony Xperia X1 is expected to have 4GB of RAM. The handset will likely have a 5-inch 1080p display and a 2,800mAh battery. Despite the differences in specs, all the smartphones mentioned in the leak are expected to see improved camera performance as all devices are expected to sport a new camera technology. This new camera technology allows for what is described as “full pixel continuous shooting”. More information regarding these devices is likely to be leaked within the next few months, with the devices rumored to be unveiled at the IFA 2017 event in September.
