Leak Suggests Nubia Z17 Will Have UFS 2.1 Storage

A recent leak suggests that the Nubia Z17 will have UFS 2.1 storage. This is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, storage standards supported by chipsets available to Android smartphone manufacturers. The standard’s improved peak theoretical read and write speeds will surely result in a faster and smoother experience for users when they open apps or games. Previous tests have shown that UFS 2.1 have sequential read speeds reaching 700MB/s, which is considerably faster than the 500MB/s read speeds achievable by the UFS 2.0 standard and more than twice of the fastest read speeds recorded by the eMMC 5.1 standard. By supporting the fastest storage standard in the device, the Nubia Z17 may be positioned to become the flagship offering of its manufacturer.

The Nubia Z17 has been the subject of numerous leaks, with its specifications and hardware features already reported in previous leaks. Based on the previous reports, the Nubia Z17 is likely powered by a Snapdragon 835, which is the current top chipset offering from Qualcomm. Within the said chipset, we could find an octa-core 64-bit Kryo 280 CPU for computational tasks and an Adreno 540 responsible for graphics processing. For the imaging needs of smartphone buyers, the device is expected to sport a 16-megapixel shooter at the front. Placing a high-resolution camera at the front is done by many Chinese smartphone manufacturers to appeal to an audience that loves taking selfies. Meanwhile, the rear camera is equipped with a 23-megapixel sensor but it is not clear if this is a single camera or a dual camera setup.

Another selling point for Nubia’s latest flagship is its water resistance features, which has been highlighted in test images shared online by the Nubia CEO, Ni Fei. However, it is not clear what test conditions are used for determining the water resistance capabilities of the device. For the external features of the device, it is expected that the Nubia Z17 will sport a metal and glass casing. A circular home key is found below the display and at the right side of the device there could be the volume up, volume down and power buttons.  A 3,100mAh non-removable battery is expected to power the device. Installed on the device is Android 7.1.1 Nougat with a Nubia custom UI on top of the device. Given the device manufacturer’s track record, it is likely that the Nubia Z17 will be release within June 2017.
