Motorola Mobility is developing a new tablet that will be released under its Moto brand, a source with knowledge of the matter told Android Police. The same source also leaked a screenshot of the software running on the upcoming device that reveals the existence of Productivity Mode, a feature that looks like an enhanced version of the traditional Multi-Window mode introduced by Android 7.0 Nougat. As suggested by the image that can be seen below, the mode allows users to place their apps in the system navigation bar and quickly switch between them and the Home Screen. The feature also provides users with the option of closing apps by dragging their icons from the navigation bar to any other portion of the user interface.
Productivity Mode’s description suggests that all of the apps that users drag to the navbar of their Moto-branded tablet will be running simultaneously, indicating that the upcoming device won’t be an entry-level product seeing how such a feature will likely require a lot of hardware resources to work in a smooth, consistent manner. Finally, the illustration of Productivity Mode that can be seen below suggests that the functionality will support Multi-Window Mode or perhaps be shipped as an alternative to that feature of Nougat, while the navbar depicted in the screenshot contains what looks like an App Drawer shortcut. The design of the icons shown in the leaked image also indicates that the new Moto tablet is running some build of Android Nougat, which isn’t a surprise.
The device itself is said to feature a display panel with a diagonal of approximately nine to ten inches, the same source that leaked the existence of Motorola’s upcoming tablet claims. Finally, the Moto-branded product is said to be designed as a high-end device, which is yet another detail suggesting that the Lenovo-owned company is working on a flagship tablet that may be looking to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and other devices in the same price range. It’s currently unclear when the company that hasn’t launched a tablet since 2011 is planning to release its upcoming device, but more details on the matter might be available later this year.
