The newest version of OxygenOS Open Beta 6 and Open Beta 15 have officially launched for the OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 3, respectively, and are bringing a plethora of new UI elements, features, performance tweaks, and fixes. Specifically, users will see a good amount of changes to a wide number of system apps, especially the dialer, as well as a number of bugs being eliminated. The Bluetooth AptX codec is now also supported, and there have been some tweaks to how Night Mode and other UI elements are handled. The new OTA is live for all current Open Beta users as of this writing.
One of the biggest changes to the software comes in the form of an entirely new experience in the default dialer. The app now boasts new gestures for certain actions, its UI has been overhauled around these gestures, and a notable bug related to third-party apps and duplicate entries in contacts has been fixed. There is also a new menu bar in the Messages and Settings apps, which OnePlus says will likely be making an appearance in other default apps in the near future. Night Mode has been additionally optimized to a degree, and users will now see notifications that tell them when they’re using a lot of power.
The Open Beta is available via an OTA update to all users that are already on the Beta track, but owners of the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T who are currently on running a stable software build or custom ROMs will have to flash to the Beta track manually using the Recovery menu on their devices. The new update follows another Beta software package that put a larger focus on bug fixes than additions and left users with a largely similar experience in the name of stability. Those who still haven’t received the notification prompting them to download the update should be able to install it manually from the Settings app on their device. Failing that, a simple reboot should be enough to make the notification appear. More details on the upcoming software additions to the latest OnePlus-branded devices are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
