Nokia 3310 (2017) To Be Released In The UK On May 24

The Nokia 3310 (2017) will be released in the United Kingdom on May 24 and HMD Global will be selling the unlocked variant of the device for £49.99, which translates to just under $65. The upcoming handset will ship with the Nokia Series 30+ operating system running out of the box and support 3G networks, the Finnish company revealed earlier this year, adding that the handset is not only aimed at nostalgic buyers but also people who are looking for an affordable secondary handset for emergencies and other uses. Apart from supporting basic cell phone features and having 16MB of internal storage, the device will also ship with a microSD card slot that can be used to expand its storage space by up to 32GB.

Owners of the new Nokia 3310 (2017) will also be able to play Snake and take pictures using a 2-megapixel rear camera equipped with a standard LED flash. The device sports a 2.4-inch screen with a resolution of 240 by 320 pixels and ships with a web browser, while its removable 1,200mAh battery can ensure up to 31 days of standby time. Even though it’s relatively limited in terms of features, the Nokia 3310 (2017) is meant to serve as a significant upgrade over the popular 2000 device that’s reliable and extremely affordable.

Initially introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year, representatives of HMD Global previously said that the Nokia 3310 (2017) isn’t a “rational” product, but one that was made in an effort to celebrate its extremely popular predecessor and remind people about the Nokia brand and its older products, mostly those that were released prior to the Android revolution. Given the low manufacturing costs of the device, the Nokia 3310 (2017) is likely a relatively low-risk bet for Nokia that could still pay off in a significant way, not just by raising brand awareness but also in terms of profitability. The device already started shipping to some customers who pre-ordered it earlier this month, though it’s still unavailable in most territories. While it remains to be seen whether HMD Global manages to achieve significant success with its Nokia 3310 refresh, first details on the commercial performance of the handset should be available shortly.
