Nokia Advertises Android Phones For Star Wars Day

Nokia is releasing a deluge of new Android phones soon, and decided that the best way to let people know this on Star Wars Day was to make a new commercial featuring some of their new and upcoming devices, including a new spin on an old classic, in a Star Wars inspired scene. The whole thing starts with the iconic Star Wars opener on what appears to be a Nokia 6. The equally iconic desert planet of Tatooine is where the camera heads next, where two Nokia phones are conversing. A Bugdroid wanders into the shoot, then the lasers start flying. A Nokia 6, flanked by two Stormtrooper white Nokia 3 units, descends to take the role of classic Star Wars villain Darth Vader, but his dramatic delivery is upstaged by a Nokia 3310. Naturally, the ad teases the phones’ imminent release with the tagline “Coming to your galaxy soon…”

According to Nokia, the newest crop of Android phones featured in this commercial will be releasing between May and June on a worldwide scale. Some of them have had scattered releases in certain markets, others have fairly concrete release dates nailed down, and others are looking to the May and June comment from Nokia as their first source of reliable release date news for these devices. The Nokia 3, Nokia 6, and Nokia 5 all make appearances here, covering the Android end of things. The newly refreshed Nokia 3310 doesn’t run Android, but does make a showing in the commercial. The rumored Nokia 8 and its partner in crime, the Nokia 7, however, continue to be little more than the subject of rumor.

Nokia’s smartphone lineup on the Android spectrum covers the lower range quite nicely, but none feature high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series processors, or even the mid-range Snapdragon 6 lineup. The Nokia 6 is already out in some regions, and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor alongside 4GB of RAM in at least one variant, and 32GB of storage. The Nokia 5 uses the same processor with 2GB of RAM, while the Nokia 3 features a somewhat lower end MediaTek MT6737 processor and 2GB of RAM. As mentioned above, all three of them will be seeing varying release dates throughout the next few weeks, and some models are already out in some markets.
