The OnePlus 5 is expected to be announced in the next few weeks, since OnePlus said it would be available in the summer, and the rumor mill has gone into overtime. There have been leaks and rumors left and right since OnePlus made that announcement, and now there’s yet another leak showing off the OnePlus 5 smartphone. This time it’s showing it in a Sandstone case.
This leak doesn’t really show anything new about the OnePlus 5, as it still shows that dual-camera setup that is vertical. Although this one does differ a bit from the leak this morning which showed the LED flash between the cameras, and here it is shown below them. Otherwise, there’s not much new here, other than the Sandstone case. Which you can tell it is a case based on how the camera and buttons on the side are concave. Sandstone has been a popular material for OnePlus since they launched their original smartphone in 2014, so it’s good to see them bringing it back once again – of course, that is if this leak is indeed correct.
Sandstone was the material used on the original OnePlus One back in 2014. In 2015 they made Styleswap Covers that were in Sandstone, carbon fiber and a few other materials that users could install on their OnePlus 2. But with the move to metal in the OnePlus 3, the company decided to stop using Styleswap covers, and just make cases, thin cases at that. Which have become pretty popular. These cases are thin, but also pretty minimal. Not featuring any crazy design, it’s just a new material with the OnePlus logo on the back. It’s a great look, and it appears to be making its way to the OnePlus 5.
The OnePlus 5 is rumored to be sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 8GB of RAM, so it’s definitely going to be a powerful beast. Which is what their previous flagship smartphones were as well. With the OnePlus 3 sporting the Snapdragon 820 and 6GB of RAM, one of the first smartphones to be openly available with 6GB of RAM. If these rumors hold true, the OnePlus 5 could be one of the first openly available devices with 8GB of RAM.
