Pico Interactive has outed their latest VR headset called the Goblin and it comes with updated specs and hardware for their most exciting all-in-one virtual reality experience yet. Like past Pico VR headsets the Pico Goblin is an all-in-one unit meaning to experience VR content with this product you don’t have to connect it to any other devices, like a smartphone or a PC. Everything you need is baked right into the headset itself and the Goblin is using some of the latest hardware, such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and a 2.5k VR display that runs at 70Hz for a fast and smooth virtual reality experience unlike any other.
In addition to the above-mentioned hardware the Pico Goblin uses what Pico Interactive is calling 3DoF or Three Degrees of Freedom head tracking technology which they state allows for users to move with total freedom when immersed in VR content, whether that be a game or some form of media content. Like the Pico Neo CV, one of Pico Interactive’s other VR headsets, the Pico Goblin comes with a controller for navigating content and it looks fairly similar to the one that comes with the Neo CV model, as well as the Daydream controller, featuring a touch pad up top and a smaller button more towards the middle. The controller also utilizes the same 3DoF technology.
Pico has shared full specs of the Goblin headset, but they have also shared images which detail some parts of the headset in terms of what it has for hardware functionality. On the top for instance is where the power button is located along with the focus adjustment wheel to fine tune the focus for picture quality so everything is clear when using. The Goblin also has a volume up and down button along with the home button and a confirm (select) button on the right side. As for the actual specs, since it’s powered by a Snapdragon 820 CPU that means it has an Adreno 530 GPU inside for the graphics processing. The headset also has 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space for storing content, but as 16GB is likely to fill up quickly it also supports expandable storage via a microSD card up to 128GB. As for battery life, Pico says the Goblin can last for about 3 hours of continuous playback or gaming all thanks to the 3500mAh battery. It supports Bluetooth 4.2 as well, which means you can hook up a pair of wireless headphones or you can plug in a pair using the included 3.5mm audio port, though using Bluetooth may affect the battery life. Pico hasn’t announced a price point or a release date for the Goblin yet, but they will be showing it off at E3 this year.
