Qualcomm has launched a new set of technologies that aims to deliver improved connected device experiences through advancements in mesh networking. The set of new technologies termed as the Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform is developed by the tech firm along with original equipment manufacturers (OEM) of connected devices and broadband carriers. Once its full potential is realized, the platform aims to provide improved device connectivity in terms of robustness and consistency. The platform also aims to include additional features into the mesh networks that could result in a wider range of use cases and improve the user experience. Adding new features into devices could also result in a more appealing product for a larger audience.
In improving the connectivity of mesh networking products, the Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform delivers a more efficient backhaul and additional self-organizing features. Incorporated into the platform is the Qualcomm WiFi Self-Organizing Feature Suite, which aims to provide improved corner-to-corner WiFi coverage and automatic management. The automatic management of mesh networks includes easy setup and automated traffic optimization, resulting in a hassle-free connectivity experience for homeowners. Qualcomm has also rolled out new software features to accompany the SON suite, which includes cloud-based tools to help in troubleshooting and remote management of the mesh networks. To ensure the delivery of best possible data speeds, Qualcomm designed the platform to support a wide range of backhauls, which include wireless options like 802.11ac, 802.11ad, and 802.11ax, and wired options like powerline communications. These features altogether help in improving the coverage, reliability, and speed of the mesh networks.
The tech giant has included into the Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform several features that improve the user experience of the mesh networks. Among them is the integrated voice capability, which allows manufacturers to transform mesh network products to hubs that control the entire network through voice. It is made possible through the platform’s support of voice recognition software and APIs for cloud-based virtual assistants. In addition, Qualcomm’s platform supports a wide range of wireless connectivity standards. Some of these standards like WiFI and Bluetooth may be used simultaneously. Qualcomm is offering reference designs of its platform to manufacturers in order to accelerate the commercialization of products taking advantage of the platform. It will allow manufacturers to deliver a usable product quickly without the need for extensive development and testing for the included hardware.
