Samsung Electronics accidentally confirmed the existence of the Galaxy J5 (2017) and Galaxy J7 (2017), its upcoming pair of entry-level Android smartphones that have yet to be officially announced. Earlier his month, the Seoul-based tech giant launched an official product page for the latest revision of its Kids Mode app, detailing a number of new features and changes, in addition to providing consumers with a list of Galaxy-branded devices that are compatible with the new build of its parental control tool. The list shared by Samsung contains all of the company’s contemporary Galaxy devices, including the unannounced Galaxy J5 (2017) and Galaxy J7 (2017). While the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer was widely expected to release follow-ups to the Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2017), this turn of events marks the fist case of the company confirming their existence, albeit in an indirect manner.
Another notable handset on Kids Mode’s latest device compatibility list is the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung’s 2016 phablet that was discontinued last fall following two global recalls that were prompted by reports of the device catching fire and exploding. While the Seoul-based phone maker has yet to clarify on the matter, the Galaxy Note 7’s listing likely refers to the Galaxy Note FE (Fandom Edition), a refurbished variant of the smartphone that’s set to ship with a somewhat smaller battery and a more affordable price tag. According to recent reports, the Galaxy Note FE will launch in Samsung’s home country next month, with only around 300,000 units being available for purchase.
The Kids Mode’s handset compatibility list also mentions the Galaxy J3 (2017), indicating that the handset will eventually make its way to South Korea after debuting in the United States last week. It’s currently unclear whether this particular model will ever be available in more markets, though additional details on the matter might follow shortly. Apart from the new Galaxy J series, Samsung is also expected to announce the successor to the Galaxy Note 7 in the coming months. The company’s mobile chief DJ Koh previously confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 will be released in the second half of the year but the firm has yet to provide a more specific release window for the highly anticipated device.
