Samsung’s Gear VR has a Kids Mode coming soon that will make the headset more fitting for children to use. A new rumor suggests that Samsung wants to make a more kid-friendly interface for the Gear VR, though at the moment the details are pretty non-existent, as the rumor only states that Samsung has plans to introduce it. That being said, it isn’t hard to imagine what a Kids Mode for the Gear VR would probably look like. The interface may not even look that much different from the main UI that can already be accessed when using the headset, though some other elements could change.
Chances are the changes will come mostly with what a Kids Mode would offer to kids in regards to content. While kid-friendly content is already available though the Gear VR, a mode that was completely dedicated to kids would make it easier to position all of this content at the forefront so it’s the only type of content that children would be able to access while the Kids Mode is active. This could give parents some peace of mind when their kids want to use the Gear VR as they would have less to worry about when it comes to what apps and games their kids may be using.
A Kids Mode could also introduce a level of parental controls that would give parents the ability to monitor how long their kids have been using the Gear VR, see what they’ve been accessing, and perhaps even the ability to pause use if they think their kids have already been using the headset for too long. With next to no information about a Gear VR Kids Mode right now there’s no way to know when Samsung may launch the new mode, but when it’s ready it would probably arrive in the form of an update for the Gear VR app on compatible Galaxy smartphones so the app could include the new feature, giving parents the ability to turn it on at their leisure from inside the Gear VR interface, as well as turn it off when need be.
