Samsung Gear 360 (2017) Available For $229 From May 25

The Samsung Gear 360 (2017) camera will be available for purchase as of tomorrow, May 25, with consumers being able to buy it from both brick-and-mortar stores and online marketplaces for $229. The Samsung Electronics-made 360-degree camera will be carried by all major mobile service providers in the country — Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular — and also be sold by Amazon and Best Buy. Finally, the American branch of the South Korean tech giant confirmed it will be selling the Gear 360 (2017) directly from its website, in addition to offering it through the ShopSamsung mobile app.

As the camera was designed for use with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, the Seoul-based electronics manufacturer decided to commemorate its launch with a promotion that will allow all consumers who purchase either member of the Galaxy S8 series to get the Gear 360 (2017) at an almost 80-percent discount. Anyone who buys the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus will be able to purchase the Gear 360 (2017) for $49, Samsung representatives said, adding that this promotion will be running from May 25 until June 19. More details on this particular offer will be available tomorrow, though Samsung’s previous Galaxy S8-related promotions indicate that customers will likely be required to provide a proof of purchase before buying a heavily discounted Gear 360 (2017) directly from the company’s website.

Consumers who are planning to purchase Samsung’s latest 360-degree camera can get ready for using their new gadget by downloading the Samsung Gear 360 manager app that launched on the Google Play Store in mid-April, weeks before the device was available for purchase. The camera itself was originally announced earlier this year alongside the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, with Samsung claiming how it improved on the design of the original Gear 360 by making its successor even more lightweight and portable. The Gear 360 (2017) is capable of recording 4K videos and its dual 8.4-megapixel fish-eye lens setup can also shoot 15-megapixel stills. The camera boasts a microSD card slot that supports up to 256GB of storage and is IP53-certified, meaning it’s relatively resistant to both dust and water though it wasn’t intended to be submerged, much like the Google Pixel smartphones that boast the same Ingress Protection Marking.
