UMIDIGI, a China-based smartphone manufacturer, has just announced that it is getting ready to release a new smartphone, the UMIDIGI G. Now, first thing you’ll notice is that this phone resembles the iPhone 7 quite a bit, at least from the back, and the company is not exactly escaping from it, as UMIDIGI is mentioning the iPhone 7 in the UMIDIGI G press materials, and the company even called the UMIDIGI G an iPhone copycat, which is quite odd. This phone was certainly inspired by the iPhone 7, and its back side resembles Apple’s flagship quite a bit, while the company still did not share an image of the front side of the UMIDIGI G.
The UMIDIGI G is not a high-end smartphone, though, not even close to that. This is UMIDIGI’s budget smartphone which costs $79.99. UMIDIGI is actually advertising this phone as the iPhone 7’s budget alternative, and as you can see, it’s considerably more affordable than Apple’s offering. The UMIDIGI G comes with support for 4G LTE, and will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, which will make it one of the most affordable smartphones out there to ship with Android Nougat. The UMIDIGI G is made out of polycarbonate, which is essentially plastic, and the phone weighs 135.5 grams, in case you were wondering, so it’s pretty light. UMIDIGI also mentioned that the UMIDIGI G does not sport a fingerprint scanner.
The company did not exactly release all the necessary info for this smartphone just yet. What we do get to see is that this phone comes with UMIDIGI’s branding on the back, and that its rear-facing camera protrudes on the back. The UMIDIGI G sports three physical keys on the right, volume up, volume down and power / lock buttons.
