Verizon is rolling a new over-the-air software update to its variants of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. The update, version NRD90M.G950USQU1AQDF for the Galaxy S8 and NRD90M.G955USQU1AQDF for the Galaxy S8 Plus, improves device performance and resolves some known issues on the Samsung flagship smartphones. Most notably, it allows you to fine tune and calibrate the Galaxy S8’s color, essentially removing the ‘red tint’ effect that some users had reported. Making Verizon the latest US carrier to roll out an update to fix the red tint issue, following similar updates from AT&T and T-Mobile earlier in the week. The update allows you to adjust the full screen color balance, giving you control over how cool or warm you want your display to look. If your device suffers from the red tint effect, you’d want to dial down the color balance to the cooler side, for example. To change the display settings, you’ll want to go into your phone’s settings, tap on display, and then select screen mode to change the settings.
Additionally, Verizon said that the same over-the-air update package contains the Bixby Vision shopping experience, a feature that was notably missing from the carrier’s variant of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus at launch, and one which was already reportedly fixed through a prior update. Either way, to use Bixby Vision, you’ll want to launch the camera and point it at an item that you wish to know more about. You’ll need to tap on the green Bixby Vision icon on the lower left corner. Bixby will use its machine learning to recognize what it’s seeing, and when you tap on the shopping icon, Bixby Vision will pull up pricing information and a link to Amazon, making it easy for you to purchase whatever catches your eye. In addition to enabling Bixby Vision and fixing the phones’ red tint issue, the update also fixes a “DQA keeps stopping” pop-up error that some users might have been experiencing.
To update your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus on Verizon to the latest software versions, go to your device’s settings, scroll to system updates at the bottom, and then you’ll be able to check for any available updates in a pop-up menu. Just be sure to log into a Wi-Fi network if you’re on a limited data plan.
