Motorola Mobility on Thursday detailed four new Moto Mods for its Moto Z-series Android devices, including the Moto GamePad that transforms its modular smartphones into Nintendo Switch-like portable consoles with physical controllers. The new accessory sports two analog sticks, D-pad, and four action buttons, in addition to shipping with a 1,035mAh battery that can recharge a compatible Moto-branded device on the go. The Moto GamePad is physically connected to its host device and doesn’t rely on Bluetooth, which makes it more reliable, the Lenovo-owned phone maker claims.
The Moto JBL SoundBoost 2 is meant to provide an upgrade over the original JBL SoundBoost accessory, offering a more premium, fabric-reliant design and up to 10 hours of music playback time, as well as a water-resistant build, the company said, adding that the attachment will be available in black, blue, and red. The JBL SoundBoost 2 accessory will launch alongside a new Android app of the same name that will provide users with the option of quickly adjusting the sound produced by the newly announced Moto Mod. Motorola also debuted the TurboPower Pack, a 3,490mAh battery pack that can recharge compatible devices by 50 percent in 20 minutes and should significantly extend the battery life of any member of the Moto Z family. The last accessory introduced by the Chicago-based consumer electronics manufacturer is the Moto Style Shell with Wireless Charging. Like its name suggests, this Moto Mod will make your Motorola-made device compatible with wireless chargers, with the accessory itself supporting both Qi and PMA pads.
All four Moto Mods are compatible with the newly launched Moto Z2 Play and will be available for purchase in the United States, Canada, and other markets this summer, the Lenovo-owned company said, without providing a more specific release window for its latest accessories. The Moto TurboPower Pack, JBL SoundBoost 2, and the Moto GamePad will be priced at $79.99, while the Moto Style Shell with Wireless Charging will carry a $39.99 price tag in the U.S, with all Mods being sold by both Motorola and Verizon Wireless.
