New OxygenOS Beta For OnePlus 3(T) Adds Font Switcher & More

As we’re waiting for the OnePlus 5 to launch, the company has just released a new OxygenOS Open Beta update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. This update comes only two weeks after the latest OxygenOS Open Beta update, and this is OxygenOS Open Beta Update 17 for the OnePlus 3, and version 18 for the OnePlus 3T. Now, in addition to a number of fixes and optimizations, this update actually comes with several new features for the two devices, read on if you’re interested.

In this update, OnePlus has added Ambient Display 2.0, which means that you’re getting some new functionality in the Ambient Display department. Up until now, you had to tap the display once while Ambient Display is on in order to activate it, well, that’s no longer the case, two taps are required in Ambient Display 2.0. OnePlus has also added the ‘Lift up display’ feature, which will turn on the display when you lift up the device. Now, the second big feature that has been added with this update is OnePlus’ very own font, which is available in English, Chinese and Japanese, at the moment. On top of that, you are getting a system-wide font switcher, which is a nice touch by the company, and it gives even more versatility to OxygenOS, that’s for sure. These are the new features that the company added, and in addition to that, the company also updated Gallery, Recorder, Weather and File Manager Apps, the Recorder app has been updated to version 1.6, while the remaining three apps are now carrying the v1.7 tag.

As far as general improvements are concerned, third-party apps are now supposed to launch quicker than before, while the company also optimized management of foreground and background processes, which is always a welcomed addition to any update. Setup wizard has been changed, it now suits the Android 7.1 Nougat style. Contact import process from a SIM card has been refined as well, it now supports dual number and email addresses. It’s also worth noting that you’re also getting a security boost with this update, as Android Security Patch for May is included as well.
