OnePlus’ customer support said that Android 7.0 Nougat will not be coming to the OnePlus 2 last month, and the company has just officially confirmed that. OnePlus confirmed to Android Authority that the update will not be coming to their 2016 flagship, which is a shame considering that the company promised Android 7.0 Nougat update for the OnePlus 2, they said it will be coming last year, but it seems like that won’t happen.
Those of you who do not know, OnePlus did promise that Android O will be coming to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, this confirmation came rather recently. Google still did not release Android O, but it will later this year, so the update will land to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T either late this year, or early next year, that’s at least what we’re expecting will happen. In any case, OnePlus also said that the company’s customer service has been informing consumers for a while now that Android 7.0 Nougat will not be coming to the OnePlus 2, and the device is more than capable of handling such an update, and this statement actually goes against OnePlus’ promise of a 24-month update cycle for the device. Android Authority also asked OnePlus why won’t they release Android 7.0 Nougat to the OnePlus 2, and the company said the following: “when we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now,” which is kind of a vague response, but it seems like the company made some changes in the software department that it did not anticipate.
The OnePlus 2 was announced way back in July 2015, and it sports a 5.5-inch fullHD display, while it also packs in 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 16GB / 64GB of native storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core SoC, and a 3,300mAh battery is also a part of this package. A 13-megapixel snapper is placed on the back of the OnePlus 2, and a 5-megapixel camera can be found on its front side. The OnePlus 2 originally shipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop, but it eventually got updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and in the last 2 years it received quite a few updates from the company, but Android 7.0 Nougat will not join that list.
