Stephen Curry NBA Edition of Vivo X9 Released

Vivo has released another special NBA edition of its popular mid-range device, the Vivo X9. This time, the special NBA edition of the said handset focuses around the manufacturer’s celebrity endorser, NBA star Stephen Curry. This edition of the Vivo X9 sports the signature NBA Blue color, with yellow stripes at the top and bottom of the rear panel that serve as the antenna bands for the device. Since this device centers around Stephen Curry, the rear panel of the device has the player’s signature and jersey number with the NBA team Golden State Warriors. By comparison, the earlier NBA edition of the Vivo X9 replaces the yellow antenna bands with plain white bands and lacks Stephen Curry’s jersey number and the signature. The handset has a plain black front with a fingerprint sensor below the display.

Aside from the hardware, the packaging and the software of the device were also modified to showcase the NBA-centric nature of the handset. The people who will purchase the special Stephen Curry edition of the Vivo X9 will receive the device in a red and blue box, the colors identifiable with the NBA. Once the device is turned on, the owner is greeted with a lock screen with an NBA-themed wallpaper complete with the NBA logo and the usual blue and red color accents. Upon unlocking the smartphone, they are greeted with a skinned software filled with basketball-inspired icons and widgets.

While the appearance of both the hardware and software of the handset has been modified to reflect the Stephen Curry- and NBA-centric nature of the device, the internals of the smartphone has not been modified substantially. The Vivo X9 is powered by a Snapdragon 625 chipset from Qualcomm, which is comprised of an octa-core ARM Cortex A53 CPU clocked at 2.0GHz. The device will be available with 4GB of RAM but there is no clear word yet whether the Stephen Curry edition will be sold with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. The device has a dual-camera setup at the front, which is equipped with a 20-megapixel sensor and an 8-megapixel sensor. Meanwhile, the rear camera is equipped with a 16-megapixel shooter. This special edition of the Vivo X9 is only available now in China, with no word on whether it will be available in other countries where Vivo has a marketing and sales presence.
