New Google Daydream View Will Cost $139 In Canada

Google unveiled a ton of new hardware at its event today, and part of that new hardware was the Daydream View. This is the second generation of the headset, and it has some pretty minimal upgrades. But Google did also raise the price of the Daydream View. In the US, it will now cost $99, while Canada will be paying $139 CAD for the new Daydream View. The Daydream View will be available on the Google Store in Canada, as well as some other retailers, although Google did not go into specifics on which retailers in Canada will get the new headset.

The Daydream View is a headset for Google’s VR platform Daydream. It was announced last year, and has improved quite a bit in the year since then. With Daydream View, users are able to strap the headset on and immerse yourself in virtual reality. There are already a slew of apps and games available for Daydream, with more and more developers jumping on board with their own apps. YouTube and Netflix are available in Daydream, so you can watch regular videos in a virtual reality room, or watch 360-degree videos and feel like you are there. According to Google there are around 250 quality VR titles already available for Daydream, with more on the way. On top of that, Google has brought IMAX films to Daydream, to really up the ante on Daydream.

This second generation Daydream View does have a newer, lighter fabric on-board. This is to make the headset a bit lighter so that when wearing it in longer sessions, the user doesn’t feel that the Daydream View is super heavy on their head. Additionally, Google has added the ability to cast what you are seeing in Daydream View to the TV, so that others are able to see what you are seeing in Daydream View. This is a great way to really show off how great the Daydream View experience is. Additionally, there are now front-firing speakers on the Daydream View so you can feel more immersed. Remember that these speakers are front-firing, so that those around you can hear what you are playing or watching in Daydream View. So you may want to stick to using headphones.
