Nubia held its latest product event earlier today – October 12th – and officially introduced the Nubia Z17S as its first ‘full-screen’ flagship of the year. The device is now available for pre-orders in China and is set to hit the shelves on October 19th, the Chinese OEM said. The Nubia Z17S is available in two variants with the main differences being the amounts of RAM and internal storage, and as expected, each model is offered at a different price point.
The Nubia Z17S carries a generous 5.73-inch display covering 96 percent of the NTSC color gamut and offering a resolution of 2,040 x 1,080. The panel is protected by an unspecified model of Corning’s Gorilla Glass and underneath its surface is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset featuring eight 64-bit cores and the Adreno 540 graphics chip. The smartphone is available with either 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 memory, or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. Its back panel accommodates a dual-camera setup comprised of a 12-megapixel Sony IMX362 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 23-megapixel Sony IMX318 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, as well as a dual-LED flash. The smartphone is doubling down on the camera game as it also makes use of two front-facing sensors, each with a resolution of 5 megapixels, an f/2.2 aperture, and a 79.9-degree lens. The back panel – which appears to have been made from glass similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8 – houses a fingerprint recognition sensor, but it’s unclear if the device takes advantage of wireless charging. Either way, the 3,100mAh battery does support fast charging allowing users to gain up to 50 percent of battery in around 25 minutes.
Other details pertaining to the flagship include a TAS2555 smart amplifier with 7.1 channel DTS audio, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity, as well as the company’s proprietary Nubia UI 5.1 Android skin based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The Nubia Z17S is available in two color options – black with gold inserts and blue – and has a starting price of 2,999 Yuan ($455), whereas the variant with additional RAM and storage costs 3,999 Yuan or approximately $606. While international resellers based in China like Gearbest may soon start retailing the device, it’s unlikely to ever be officially available in the West.
