The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus with the model number SM-G928C is now getting the latest Android security patch for the month of October. The update is reportedly rolling out now in a number of markets including South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Iran. These monthly Android security updates are designed to keep Android devices protected against the latest cyber threats, which is paramount for an ecosystem the size of Android. Google issues these patches at the beginning of each month, when it’s up to original equipment manufacturers and carriers to distribute them to devices. Samsung has been among the quickest OEMs to update its devices with the latest security patches in many markets, and the older Galaxy S6 Edge Plus proves that yet again.
The new firmware comes with the build number G928CXXS3CQJ3 and the October security patch it brings fixes 215 vulnerabilities pertaining to the Android OS, and six vulnerabilities exclusive to Samsung’s own software. Since it’s a security update, the firmware doesn’t bring any new features but it’s nonetheless advisable to install it as soon as it becomes available so that the smartphone can benefit from the latest security improvements. As always, the update is rolling out in stages and it may take a bit to hit all eligible devices. Those who want to manually check for the update’s availability can do so by accessing the software update menu in the phone’s settings. Before proceeding with the download and installation, it’s best to ensure the smartphone has enough battery life left and is connected to a stable internet connection so as to avoid any harmful interruptions.
Although Samsung has launched several other flagships in recent years, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is still a relatively powerful device with plenty of solid specs and features. As a reminder, the handset is basically a larger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, sporting a 5.7-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels, the Exynos 7420 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of native storage space. Other specs include a 16-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5-megapixel front shooter, and a 3,000mAh battery. The smartphone launched with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but it’s now running the newer Android 7.0 Nougat build.
