Razer Phone Receives Update With Audio, Camera Improvements

Razer is currently rolling out an update to the Razer Phone that includes a number of performance improvements and bug fixes. The software upgrade, which has a file size of 97MB, should enhance the image quality produced by the device’s camera by reducing the noise and improving the picture’s color range. In addition, the photographs captured by the smartphone should have clearer shadows after installing the software package. The update aims to improve the shutter speed of the camera, especially for images taken in low-light conditions and while using the HDR mode, and it also includes fixes for bugs discovered in the camera’s software. The upgrade also brings enhancements to the audio functionality of the Razer Phone. For example, content should now sound clearer and HD Audio is now also part of the package. Some auto-brightness luminosity changes have been introduced by the firmware as well but no more details on the matter were provided by the OEM.

The update is currently being distributed automatically, and it may take several days before all devices receive it. Before installing the software upgrade, it is important to back up the files and images stored in the handset to a personal computer or a microSD card in order to prevent loss of important data. Furthermore, users should check if their smartphone has sufficient battery charge left to last the entire installation process.

The Razer Phone was revealed in November with one of its highlight features being the 5.72-inch IGZO LCD Ultramotion display. The panel is manufactured by Sharp and can achieve a screen refresh rate of 120Hz. The panel can also display a wide color gamut and it is protected from scratches by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm, which is comprised of an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 540 GPU. The Razer Phone contains 8GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage that can be expanded using a microSD card. To keep the lights on, the smartphone includes a 4,000mAh non-removable battery that supports Quick Charge 4+ from Qualcomm. The rear cameras of the Razer Phone are equipped with two 12-megapixel sensors while the front-facing camera has a single 8-megapixel unit.
