OnePlus has just started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0.1 to the OnePlus 5. For those of you who do not know, this is not the first Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS build that the company pushed out to the OnePlus 5, the company started sending the OxygenOS 5.0 build to the OnePlus 5 at the end of last month, but that build had some sort of a bug because of which the company decided to stop rolling it out, and work on a fix in form of the OxygenOS 5.0.1. We still do not know why exactly did OnePlus stopped distributing OxygenOS 5.0, as the company did not elaborate on its statement, but it seems like everything has been fixed now, and you can update your phone to OxygenOS 5.0.1.
Having said that, this update will not be made available to all OnePlus 5 units immediately, as we’re looking at a staged rollout here, but if you’re eager to get it straight away, you can always install a VPN app from the Play Store and select ‘Canada’ in the options, and the update will be pushed to your phone straight away. OnePlus warned its users that they should know update the OnePlus 5 if they have an unlocked bootloader, as the update will fail, you should re-lock your smartphone first, and then update, though that will wipe your device clean, so keep that in mind. In any case, as part of this update, the company listed bug fixes for third-party camera apps, and also some network fixes for European users, as it seems like some of them experienced issues on OxygenOS 5.0. That’s pretty much it as far as new changelog entries are concerned, it seems like the company fixed up some bugs in this update, compared to OxygenOS 5.0, and that’s it. If you’re coming to this build from Android 7.1.1 Nougat, however, well, there’s plenty to look forward to, including a ton of stock Android Oreo features, like the Picture-in-Picture mode, changes in the quick toggles section, new notification shade features, and so on.
Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0.1 is now available for the OnePlus 3, 3T and 5, but not the company’s latest flagship, the OnePlus 5T. The OnePlus 5T is expected to receive this update in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that.
