August Home Debuts 'August Access' For In-Home Deliveries – CES 2018

August Home, one of the biggest names in smart door locks these days, has just made a pretty important announcement at CES 2018 that is going to be competing directly with Amazon’s Key service. And that is August Access. August Home is partnering with Deliv for August Access, which is going to allow customers to have their packages delivered inside their homes, garages, or multifamily households. This is something that Amazon recently announced with Amazon Key, and it looks like it’s going to be a big feature this year, for smart door locks and even smart cameras.

According to August Home, the checkout process is going to remain unchanged for both customers and retailers – who use Deliv on the backend to power its same-day delivery service. Customers will be able to choose same day delivery at checkout, and then select a time that works for them. From there, a customer can authorize an in-home delivery, after the purchase is completed. The way it’ll work is August Home will create a one-time passcode for the lock. And when the courier arrives, they will ring the doorbell, which will trigger a notification on your smartphone or other device. And if no one answers the door, the courier will be able to use the one-time passcode to unlock the door and drop off the package. Customers also have the ability to watch the delivery take place in real-time using the August app, of course they can also view a recording of it at any time.

The way that August Home and Deliv is doing this, is going to make it easier to get packages inside your home so you don’t need to worry about them getting stolen from your porch or in front of your door. But also keep the customers peace of mind by having video there to see what the delivery courier is doing. So that if perhaps the courier decides to take something, you’ll have it on video. Which is definitely nice to have. August Home says that this service will work with all of its existing smart locks, as well as Yale’s residential and commercial locks. Yale’s locks are included since August Home was just bought by ASSA ABLOY which owns Yale as well. Deliv already works with over 4,000 retailers in 35 markets and 1400 cities across the country.
