Dell has just announced that the Dell Mobile Connect suite is coming to more Android and iOS handsets, and the company also shared more info regarding it. The Dell Mobile Connect application has been available in the Google Play Store for quite some time now, and the company did talk about this suite before, but its availability was quite limited, though it seems like that won’t be the case any longer starting this month. Many of you are probably wondering what is the ‘Dell Mobile Connect’, well, let’s talk more about it.
Samsung had introduced its DeX dock using which you can connect your smartphone to your PC, and basically use it as a desktop computer of sorts, well… Dell’s solution is much simpler it seems. All you’ll need to wirelessly connect your smartphone and PC, and also use your phone through the Dell Mobile Connect suite, is a program for your PC and an Android application (or iOS app, if you own an iOS-based device). Dell also said that Dell Mobile Connect comes factory installed on XPS, Alienware, Inspiron and Vostro PCs, in case you were wondering. Once you get connected, you will be able to respond to SMS messages, phone calls, IMs, app notifications, and so on, via your PC. You will be able to directly access your phone apps through your PC, thanks to the advanced mirroring function that the Dell Mobile Connect suite offers. All in all, this seems like a more convenient solution that something like the Samsung DeX, as it does not require you to buy an external dock or anything of the sort, everything goes through the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to, and Dell says that everything you do while your phone is connected through the Dell Mobile Connect remains private and secure.
The company also released requirements for the Dell Mobile Connect, it seems like you will need to have Android Lollipop or higher to get it working, though Dell does not guarantee that it will work on all devices that ship with any of those OS versions, so keep that in mind. As far as PC requirements are concerned, 2GB of RAM is the absolute minimum, while you’ll also need to own a PC that runs at least a dual processor clocked at 1.0GHz, support Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 (at least) and Windows 10 RS2 (64 bit) it seems.
