Networking equipment manufacturer D-Link took to the 2018 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show to showcase a number of new products, including two router series and a handful of security cameras. The AC2600 and Covr were introduced as Wi-Fi offerings focused on highly specific aspects of Internet connectivity, whereas the company’s lineup of monitoring hardware was ennobled with the additions of several new cameras aimed at being both versatile and straightforward to install.
The Covr family of routers was showcased at CES 2018 in the form two models – the COVR-C1203 and COVR-2202. The former is a compact offering with dual-band support, whereas the latter delivers tri-band speeds and is noticeably more imposing in its design. Three COVR-C1203 units are said to be able to cover up to 5,000 square feet with reliable Wi-Fi signal, whereas just two COVR-2202 models are advertised as doing the same across a maximum of 6,000 square feet. The mesh networking lineup starts at $249.99 which will net you three smaller devices for nearly double the price of a Google WiFi triple pack. Still, if you’re on the lookout for a long-term solution compatible with MU-MIMO that’s meant to fulfill your mesh networking needs, you may want to consider the COVR-C1203 pack once it’s released later this quarter. The COVR-2202 series comes with identical features and support for one extra band that’s more of a future-proof selling point than anything you can immediately benefit from, and coupled with the extra coverage potential, the added benefits will set you back $319.99. The dual-pack of routers is set to be released in spring but no specific availability date has yet been provided by the Taiwanese company.
D-Link’s CES 2018 appearance also saw the introduction of the AC2600, a home router developed in collaboration with McAfee that’s been designed with a specific emphasis on networking security. Powered by an Intel-made chip, the router is said to be a perfect fit for contemporary smart homes as it’s able to manage a large number of Internet of Things devices while its automatic protections should keep every setup as safe as possible without any particular effort on the part of its owner. The AC2600 is scheduled to go on sale in the second quarter of the year, priced at $249.99 in the United States. Global availability has yet to be detailed but as is the case with the vast majority of other products from D-Link, customers in other parts of the world should at the very least be able to opt for paying a little extra for international shipping.
The tech giant’s home security offerings introduced in Las Vegas included a number of battery-powered products designed in a minimalist manner, being meant to blend into any surroundings and deliver an effective monitoring solution. The Wire-Free Full HD Indoor/Outdoor Camera lineup is extremely compact and said to last up to 11 months on a single battery charge, boasting motion detection, 1080p cloud recording, and support for the Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, and IFTTT protocols. Kits will range from $250 to $350, with an LTE model being set at $300. The company’s new monitoring solutions also span three smaller Wi-Fi cameras with prices ranging between $60 to $120.
