Nexia is making in-home temperature control smarter with the RoomIQ system feature and the new Trane XL724 thermostat, which the company is showcasing this year at CES 2018, all of which will be available in the first half of the year, although Nexia hasn’t mentioned a specific time frame for the release of the RoomIQ feature or the new Trane Thermostat. With the new Trane XL724 thermostat, users will get convenient control of the climate within the home to make sure they’re always comfortable with the set temperatures.
The Trane XL724 is a smart thermostat with a touchscreen and Wi-Fi connectivity capabilities, so you can hook it up to your home’s wireless network and adjust the temperature through the Nexia application that you can install on your mobile device. Of course, temperature settings can also be configured from the thermostat itself using the touchscreen display, and users will be able to set up four different profiles so the temp can be adjusted to the liking of a specific person in the home, and then changed based on who’s there at certain times thanks to scheduling features. While convenience is definitely a benefit of the new Trane XL724 thermostat, Nexia points out that energy efficiency and savings are also a factor in offering this sort of product to the market.
When it comes to RoomIQ, things become even smarter as it allows the temperature to be adjusted and controlled from room to room, and it controls the heating and cooling so if one room is designated to be around 65 degrees and another is designated to be a little warmer, that’s entirely possible so that everyone can be comfortable. What’s more is that it pairs with Nexia sensors and triggers that are configured by the user. For instance, a motion sensor can be set up to trigger when a person walks into a room and then RoomIQ will use that to help prioritize the temp control for that room instead of other empty rooms in the home, this way the temperature isn’t being regulated in unnecessary areas. Users will need the Nexia app to make the most of this feature, and the app can be found on both Android an iOS devices. Neither device is listed as having compatibility with Alexa or Google Assistant but they do indeed support both platforms, so if you have speakers powered by either technology you can interact with the Nexia system using them.
