Omate Reveals New Safety Wearable Service & Watch – CES 2018

Smartwatch maker Omate has now announced the results of a partnership with Arkea insurance and Medical Guardian aimed at delivering a new smartwatch and Wearable-as-a-Service (WaaS) platform for CES 2018. More directly, the effort is aimed at providing peace of mind for parents, elderly, and those who work under dangerous conditions with tailored services and software. Omate will show off its new innovation with the introduction of a standalone, Android-powered smartwatch it calls the O5LW, which includes a variety of features driven by Arkea on Life secured location-based services.

Omate’s O5LW is, first and foremost, a low-power 4G and WiFi-enabled wearable, which also includes a GPS tracker and Bluetooth connectivity. That will make location services much more accurate, with the entire offering being packed into an IP67 ruggedized case that centers around functionality over form. True to its nature as a safety-focused wearable, there is also an SOS button built into the frame, allowing a wearer to call for help when it’s needed. Rounding that package out is a 1.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, built-in speaker, noise-canceling microphone, and a 2-megapixel forward-facing camera. In turn, that’s all powered by a battery that Omate says will last for up to 3 days between charges. Base services include the ability to send and receive messages – including text-to-speech software, weather forecasts, emergency services, a step counter, reminders and alters, and even transportation-linked services so users can call for a ride. However, as mentioned above, functions and services can and will be tailored to any individual needs of a company or person looking to take advantage of the device. Moreover, depending on how and where the service is bought, those services are likely to be tweaked to varying degrees. The O5LW smartwatch will first become available through Arkea on Life from Arkea Insurance at some point in June. After that, it will be sold through select mobile services and insurance providers beginning in Q3 2018.

For those who will be attending CES 2018 and who happen to be interested in checking out the Omate O5LW and its WaaS services in person, the new smartwatch will be demonstrated in Las Vegas tomorrow, from 6 to 10 PM PST.
