Roland Quandt has just shared some new info regarding the availability of the Xiaomi Redmi 5, he claims that the Redmi 5 is ‘going global’ in the second half of next month. Mr. Quandt also said that the phone will ship with support for LTE Band 20, which will make it compatible with a number of carriers in Europe. That is pretty much all the info that he shared, but it seems like Xiaomi is planning to expand the availability of the Redmi 5, and the Redmi 5 Plus could be included into that equation as well.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are the company’s newest mid-range handset, they were both announced last month, and they sport considerably thinner bezels than their predecessors. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is inferior to the Redmi 5 Plus, and it’s also smaller than its sibling, but both of these smartphones sport the same design. The Xiaomi Redmi 5’s display sports rounded corners, while its fingerprint is placed on the back. All of its physical keys are included on the right, while a SIM card tray can be found on the left. The device utilizes on-screen buttons, and it comes with a single camera on the back, below which you will notice a fingerprint scanner. Xiaomi’s branding is included on the back fo the phone, while the back side of the Redmi 5 is curved. A 3.5mm headphone jack is placed at the top of the device, while the phone’s specs are not bad either, especially considering the price point of this phone. The Redmi 5’s pricing starts at 799 ($121) in China, and chances are it will be somewhat more expensive in Europe, but we still do not know how much will it cost.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is made out of metal, while it is fueled by the Snapdragon 450 64-bit octa-core processor. The phone was announced in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants, which come with 16GB and 32GB of storage, respectively. We’re looking at expandable storage here, and a 3,300mAh non-removable battery is included in the package as well. Android 7.1.2 Nougat comes pre-installed on the Redmi 5, along with MIUI 9.1 skin. The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display, while there are two SIM card slots on the inside of this phone. The Redmi 5 was announced in four color variants, Black, Gold, Light Blue and Rose Gold, and chances are that most of those variants will make their way to Europe as well.
