Among the latest products unveiled by Sony at CES 2018, are the new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player christened UBP-X700, and a new AV receiver known as the STR-DH790. The UBP-X700, complete with HDR capabilities, promises a much wider color range and higher contrast and brightness compared to standard Blu-ray players, claims Sony, while the STR-DH790 has been designed exclusively for Dolby Atmos, once again according to the OEM, and features a 5.1.2 channel configuration supporting DTS:X.
The UBP-X700 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player supports both HDR formats including HDR10 and Dolby Vision, but it’s important to note that the latter format will only be supported after a firmware update will be distributed later this summer. The device also comes with built-in Wi-Fi and MIMO, and supports screen mirroring via Miracast, as well as 3D and 4K streaming. In terms of ports, the player features a coaxial audio output, two HDMI outputs, an Ethernet connector, as well as a USB input. And while the player comes with a remote control of its own, users can also sync the device to a smartphone using Sony’s Video & TV SideView: Remote application and use the handset as a touchscreen-enabled remote.
Moving on to the Sony STR-DH790 AV receiver, the unit also offers HDR10 and Dolby Vision compatible features, as well as 4in/1out HDMI connectivity with 4K/60p (4:4:4) pass-through. The AV receiver has a 5.1.2 decodable channel configuration while supporting 7 amp. channels, and features Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (D.C.A.C.), allowing different types of speakers to deliver a similar sound when combined in the same audio setup. It also takes advantage of Dolby Atmos for 360-degree surround and accurate positioning sound, as well as DTS:X object-based audio decoding for multi-dimensional surround. The Sony STR-DH790 weighs a hefty 7.4Kg and measures 430 x 133 x 29mm, and will launch in the UK later this spring for the approximate price of £400. Meanwhile, the UBP-X700 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player will hit the shelves before the end of this month for the estimated price of €270 /£270. At CES 2018 Sony also unveiled a new line of powerful speakers with party features, as well as a new series of Android TVs which should go well hand-in-hand with these latest two products at hand, and all will coming to the market later this year.
