A set of renders said to be the official depictions of the upcoming Alcatel 5 leaked online earlier this week, having been obtained by German tech outlet WinFuture. The same source also listed a number of supposed specs of the device which indicate Alcatel’s next Android-powered offering will compete in the mid-range segment of the smartphone market. The images seen in the gallery below are in line with other recent leaks and show the alleged Alcatel 5 in two colors said to be advertised as Black and Gold, with the handset itself featuring a relatively regular-sized top bezel but a minimal bottom one, as well as extremely slim side bezels. The back of the smartphone appears to be of the brushed metal variety and accommodates a single-lens camera setup accompanied by a dual-LED flash unit and a circular fingerprint reader, with all three modules being arranged in a vertical manner, centered about a third of the way down the rear plate.
Alcatel’s standard logo is visible on the back of the device but no such branding is present on the front, with the top bezel featuring what appears to be a dual-camera setup. According to the source, the Alcatel 5’s main front sensor will be a 13-megapixel affair mounted behind a 5P lens with an aperture of f/2.0 and supported by a 5-megapixel camera using a 120-degree lens. The existence of such a setup implies the Alcatel 5 is meant to be a selfie-focused device, with its rear camera appearing to be less capable, supposedly being of the 12-megapixel variety and relying on an f/2.0 lens, though that may not end up being the case depending on the actual pixel size of the three sensors.
The handset is said to feature MediaTek’s MT6750 chip and 3GB of RAM, as well as 32GB of internal flash memory expandable via a microSD card slot by an unspecified amount, as per the same report. The 5.7-inch display of the device is rumored to support an HD+ resolution of 1,440 by 720 pixels and clearly uses the 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio that’s been gaining major traction in the mobile industry over the last 12 months. The Alcatel 5 will reportedly be powered by a 3,000mAh battery and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, in addition to featuring a USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.2, and facial recognition capabilities. The smartphone is expected to be announced late next month at Barcelona, Spain-based MWC 2018.
