At this year’s CES, Westinghouse Electronics announced its new 4K Ultra HD Android TV lineup offering access to a variety of content categories ranging from TV shows to Android games on large 4K panels with sizes ranging from 43 to 65 inches. The company describes the new TVs as being tailored to offer pure home entertainment in the living room, and of course, as TVs backed by the Android platform, the devices come pre-loaded with a variety of streaming applications and services including Netflix, NBA Game Time, and YouTube.
Furthermore, the new Android TVs from Westinghouse support Chromecast (previously Google Cast), meaning that users will be able to easily stream content from their connected smartphones, tablets, or laptops directly onto a bigger screen. Mobile gaming enthusiasts will have access to Play Store titles and Google Play Games will allow them to track and advance their progress across the entire Android ecosystem regardless of the device they opt to use on any occasion. Additionally, the platform gives owners control over connected smart home devices including thermostats, LED lights, light switches, and virtually any IoT device that is compatible with the Google Assistant. According to the OEM, the latest 4K Android TV lineup will comprise four models, the smallest of which will feature a 43-inch panel. 50-inch and 55-inch models will also be offered, as will a 65-inch alternative at the lineup’s more premium end. Regardless of size, each panel will have a resolution of 3840 x 2160, a native refresh rate of 60Hz, and an effective refresh rate of 120Hz. The TVs are capable of streaming content at 4K (2160p), 1080p, and 720p resolutions at up to 70 frames per second, and other details worth mentioning include 3GB of on-board memory, built-in Wi-Fi, three HDMI ports, Component/Composite connectors, and an optical output.
As far as availability goes, the latest Westinghouse Android TVs will launch in the second quarter of 2018, though it remains to be seen exactly when. The smaller 43-inch model is said to have a starting price of $349.99, but pricing for the larger three models remains unknown and most likely won’t be unveiled before spring.
