The Razer Phone now comes in a special edition to celebrate the Chinese New Year, commonly referred to as the Spring Festival, Razer announced. Arriving as the company’s very first smartphone, the Razer Phone is a high-end Android smartphone designed for gaming, boasting powerful specs and features all around. The new version for the Chinese Spring Festival is called the Razer Phone Gold Edition, albeit the name might be slightly misleading. This limited edition does not actually come in a gold color option, it’s still mostly black, but the Razer logo on its back does have a gold outline now. The smartphone also comes in a neat red package, along with some golden-hued stickers, but not much else is different.
Looking strictly at the smartphone itself, the only noticeable visual change is the golden logo on its back. Otherwise, the Razer Phone Gold Edition comes with the same design, specs, and features as the regular Razer Phone. The price remains unchanged as well, as the special edition retails at the same $699.99 price point as the standard version. The new Razer Phone Gold Edition is available for purchase at three retail stores in Hong Kong, as well as online directly from the Razer Store both in Hong Kong and in the United States. Razer offers no additional details as to how limited this edition actually is, so it remains unclear how many units it has available or for how long it will be selling this model.
With identical specs to the regular version, the Razer Phone Gold Edition boasts a 5.7-inch IGZO LCD display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a QHD+ resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 8GB of RAM, 64GB of native storage space, stereo front speakers, and a large 4,000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0+ fast charging technology. Other specs include a dual rear camera setup comprising of 12-megapixel sensors, an 8-megapixel front camera, and microSD support for up to 2TB of external storage. Thanks to a recent update, the Razer Phone now also supports both Netflix HDR and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound content. Razer touts that it’s the first smartphone to offer this superior Netflix experience (Netflix subscription required).
