Rumor: HTC To Announce Its U12 Flagship In The Spring

It seems like the HTC U12 may launch in the Spring, at least according to a new rumor that surfaced on Twitter. This info comes from the Ricciolo (aka @Ricciolo1) Twitter handle, which is a rather familiar source, as we’ve seen it leak content a number of times in the past. Now, it was reported last month that the HTC U12 will not be announced at MWC 2018, as HTC is probably looking to avoid the Galaxy S9 craze, but it was safe to assume that HTC will announce its new flagship in either March or April, which is exactly what this new rumor suggests, as ‘Spring’ was mentioned.

Having said that, not many info surfaced regarding the HTC U12, but it’s safe to assume that the phone will resemble the HTC U11 Plus, the company’s current flagship. The HTC U11 Plus was announced back in November last year, and that phone is made out of metal and glass, while it sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The HTC U11 Plus also comes with rather thin bezels, although not as thin as some other flagship smartphones out there. The HTC U12 may include an in-display fingerprint scanner, instead of the rear-facing one, while the phone will, almost certainly, ship with thinner bezels than the HTC U11 Plus. It is still unknown whether the HTC U12 will include a single camera on the back, or will HTC move to a dual camera setup, as most other flagships have thus far. The HTC U12 will, almost certainly, be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, Qualcomm’s most powerful SoC at the moment.

Android Oreo will come pre-installed on the HTC U12, though it is still unknown whether we’ll see Android 8.0 or 8.1 included on the device. No matter which variant of Android Oreo the HTC U12 gets, HTC’s Sense UI will be included on top of it. The device is expected to have a larger display than the HTC U11, which arrived with a 5.2-inch panel, but chances are HTC will want to keep it below 6-inches, as the HTC U12 Plus will probably ship with a 6-inch panel. Stereo speakers are expected to be a part of the HTC U12 package as well, and the same can be said for fast charging as well, as the HTC U12 will utilize Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 or 4.0 fast charging.
