'Samsung Max' Mobile Data Saving App Hits The Play Store

The South Korean tech giant Samsung has just launched the Samsung Max, an application that helps users to protect their privacy and reduce data consumption. This software replaces the Opera Max application, a virtual private network (VPN) service that was discontinued in August 2017. The Samsung Max app offers two key features, which are the Data Saving Mode and the Privacy Protection Mode. Among the ways that the application can help reduce user’s data consumption is by compressing the images, videos, music files, and web pages that consumers access on their browsers and applications. Moreover, the app permits the user to specify which applications can consume data and it automatically blocks all applications from using data in the background. The application also notifies users once it identifies that an application already uses too much data. Altogether, the tech firm claims that the Data Saving Mode will help reduce the money spent by people on mobile data plans.

Another functionality of the Samsung Max application is the Privacy Protection Mode, which secures the user’s personal information from attackers by encrypting data and blocking trackers. The app also offers a Domain Name System (DNS) masking service, as well as “Privacy Reports” that inform the user on how they could manage their privacy even better. Another feature of the application is the Ultra Apps, which load the mobile website version of popular social media sites that were optimized by Samsung’s servers. In addition to saving data and protecting people’s privacy, Ultra Apps enables consumers to control the user experience of the social networks that they access. Moreover, the manufacturer mentioned on the software’s Google Play listing that the app is capable of boosting Wi-Fi connectivity in crowded areas or in locations with poor signal, although the company did not provide additional information on how this feature works.

Samsung Max can be installed on selected Samsung devices by downloading the app from the Google Play Store or from the Galaxy Apps store starting on February 23, 2018. The app will automatically replace the Opera Max application that is still installed on Samsung devices. This application will also come pre-installed on Samsung Galaxy A and Galaxy J series smartphones in countries like Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Thailand, and Vietnam.
