Three Sony-made Android devices bearing the model numbers H4213, H4113, and H3123 appeared in the database of mobile benchmarking tool Geekbench earlier this week, having been listed with specs that place them in the mid-range segment of the smartphone market. The trio was found to be powered by the Snapdragon 660, Qualcomm’s latest mid-range chip which has already been commercialized inside devices like the Xiaomi Mi Note 3, OPPO R11 Plus, and the ASUS ZenFone 4 (ZE554KL). The benchmark identified the chip as being clocked at 2.21GHz, though that operating frequency is understood to pertain to its high-performance cluster entailing four cores, whereas the silicon should also feature an energy-efficient quad-core configuration clocked at approximately 1.8GHz.
All three of Sony’s newly spotted handsets were tested while running Android 8.0 Oreo, the latest major iteration of Google’s ubiquitous mobile operating system. As suggested by Sony’s recent products, the software set to power the H4213, H4113, and the H3123 is likely to be similar to a stock version of Android and shouldn’t be heavily reskinned. The H4213 was found to boast 4GB of RAM, whereas the other two devices are equipped with 3GB of RAM. As expected from a trio sporting the same system-on-chip, the synthetic benchmark scores achieved by the handsets were nearly identical. No other details have been revealed by the listings, though the model numbers themselves indicate all three smartphones are meant to be commercialized at some point this year. Sony’s established product naming scheme has the first letter of every model number denote a year in an alphabetical order. Last year’s handsets from the Japanese tech giant all had their monikers start with the letter “G” so those of this year’s products should start with the letter “H,” as is the case with the newly spotted offerings.
The Tokyo-based original equipment manufacturer should unveil at least several new handsets at Mobile World Congress 2018 set to open its doors to the public on Monday, with the company already teasing its upcoming announcements on social media. Sony is widely expected to post the best fiscal year in its 71-year history this spring, though its mobile division is still shrinking, as revealed by its recent financials.
