The Huawei MediaPad M5 has just surfaced on Geekbench, at least based on the two model numbers that appeared on the site. The Huawei SHT-AL09 and CMR-AL09 devices popped up on Geekbench, and based on model numbers from previous devices, and specifications that Geekbench shared, these are almost certainly the MediaPad M5 devices. The first model number that popped up represents an 8.4-inch tablet (even though its display size was not mentioned), while the second one shared some specs of a 10.1-inch MediaPad tablet, read on.
Both of these tablets will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, if Geekbench is to be believed, which means that Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.0 skin will be included on top of it. Both devices will be fueled by the same processor, an octa-core chip clocked at 1.84GHz, in other words, probably the Kirin 960 64-bit octa-core chip, which is Huawei’s very own processor. This SoC was once the company’s flagship mobile processor, but since the Kirin 970 arrived, it is no longer holding that title, though it’s still quite powerful. Geekbench reports that both tablets will sport 4GB of RAM, and that’s pretty much it as far as specs are concerned. The Huawei SHT-AL09 managed to score 1,905 points in a single-core test, while it hit 6,617 points in a multi-core benchmark. The Huawei CMR-AL09, on the other hand, managed to score 1,647 points in a single-core test, while it reached 5,825 points a multi-core test.
Now, those two Huawei MediaPad M5 tablets will probably look the same, though they will be different in terms of size, of course. Both will be made out of metal, almost certainly, and if rumors are to be believed, you can also expect to see a 3.5mm headphone jack on both of them. Some of you are probably wondering why is Huawei skipping the ‘MediaPad M4’ line, well, the number 4 is considered to be unlucky in China, so a number of OEMs refuse to release products containing it, companies like Meizu and OnePlus already skipped it altogether. It is also worth saying that the Huawei MediaPad already got certified by the FCC, and that it surfaced in a number of renders quite recently, which reveal its design, more or less.
