Xiaomi India has just scheduled a new press event for February 14, and judging by the teaser images that the company released along with the announcement, we’re looking at new devices in the ‘Redmi 5’ series. Now, the company may be getting ready to release the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in the country, in fact, probably both of those devices will be announced during the event. Having said that, one of the two Redmi 5 devices may launch under a different name in India, read on.
According to some recent rumors, the Redmi 5 Plus may actually be rebranded for its launch in India, so we may end up with the Redmi Note 5 which will actually be a repackaged Redmi 5 Plus. The Redmi Note 5 was not announced thus far, and if rumors are to be believed, it will not exactly be a whole new smartphone. Some rumors indicated that the Redmi 5 Plus replaced the Redmi Note 5, and that may as well be true, but it seems like Xiaomi may opt to rebrand the Redmi 5 Plus in India as the Redmi Note series of devices has been quite successful in that Asian country, so it only makes sense to give consumers a direct successor to the Redmi Note 4. In fact, the Redmi Note 4 was the best-selling smartphone in India according to Counterpoint Research’s recently-released report, so it would be rather unwise from Xiaomi not to give India consumers the Redmi Note 5, and the Redmi 5 Plus definitely fits the bit.
Having said that, the Redmi 5 will probably launch alongside the Redmi 5 Plus / Redmi Note 5 in the country, though we’re not entirely sure as to what to expect in the pricing department, even though both phones will be a bit more expensive than they are in China. Spec sheets of both devices will probably remain unchanged, and the same can be said for their designs as well. The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are made out of metal, they ship with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, and sport rather thin bezels all around, considerably thinner than the Redmi Note 5. The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display, 2GB / 3GB of RAM and a 3,300mAh non-removable battery, while it is fueled by the Snapdragon 450 64-bit octa-core SoC. The Redmi Note 5, on the other hand, features a 5.99-inch fullHD+ panel, 3GB / 4GB of RAM, 4,000mAh non-removable battery, and it is fueled by the Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core processor.
