Madfinger Games launched the latest entry in the Shadowgun franchise on Wednesday, having released Shadowgun Legends on a global level. Unlike previous iterations in the series, the new game is more akin to Bungie’s Destiny than Gears of War, with the bulk of its gameplay being online multiplayer and raids supported by a loot-based progression system and traditional first-person shooter mechanics, though the hub world is experienced from a third-person perspective. Players who pre-registered their interest in Shadowgun Legends will receive a number of in-game bonuses once they first run it, whereas everyone is able to download the online FPS free of charge. As has been the case with the majority of mobile releases from the Czech developer-publisher, Shadowgun Legends is a free-to-play experience supported by advertising and optional in-app purchases which can be used for speeding up one’s progression.
The mobile game started rolling out worldwide a day before it was originally said to be hitting the market but should now be available for download from the Google Play Store across the planet. Madfinger appears to have committed significant resources to optimizing the game, with initial reports and limited testing performed by AndroidHeadlines suggesting Shadowgun Legends offers stable performance even on select 2016 devices, meaning you don’t have to own one of the latest and greatest flagships to enjoy a consistent experience, though a high-end chip such as the Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 is still recommended. The game is compatible with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and all newer builds of Google’s mobile operating system.
Shadowgun Legends is officially advertised as an RPG shooter, with Madfinger indicating the title will be continuously updated with new content. The launch marks the studio’s first release since 2015 and zombie multiplayer shooter Unkilled which is still supported to this day, as is Dead Trigger 2 which received a major performance upgrade last December, more than four years after its commercial debut.
