SiegeVR Brings Immersive Medieval Archery To HTC Vive

HTC’s virtual reality unit and Sixense Studios took to the latest iteration of San Francisco-based Game Developers Conference to announce the immediate release of SiegeVR, a medieval archery game launching exclusively for the Vive VR headset. Much like its name suggests, SiegeVR will test your sharpshooting skills during a virtual siege, with the game itself being envisioned as an eSports title. Details of HTC and Sisense’s plans for nurturing a competitive gaming scene around SiegeVR in the long term remain scarce, though the first tournaments are already set to take place this week during GDC. The most successful participants who experience the SiegeVR demo will go home with Vive headsets, with the partners confirming they’ll be awarding five of them in total.

While SiegeVR has some single-player components meant to help people train, the bulk of the game revolves around PvP modes, with the title allowing you to challenge both your friends and strangers. PvE support is also part of the package, as are global leaderboards. SiegeVR is already available for purchase on Steam as of today, being priced at $8.49/€8.49, or 15-percent down its planned regular price. The title is also meant to launch on HTC’s own Viveport store later this year but no specific release date or even window has yet been provided. The Taiwanese tech giant is hoping to use SiegeVR as both a commercial product and proof-of-concept meant to serve as evidence that immersive VR sports tournaments comparable to the real thing are already within the industry’s reach. Besides GDC, SiegeVR is presently being showcased in Las Vegas at International Game Technology’s Virtual Zone located in Boyd Gaming’s The Orleans Hotel and Casino where players can compete for cash prizes.

The launch discount attached to SiegeVR will only be available through Wednesday, March 28, after which the game will be offered at €9.99/$9.99. HTC recently announced the second generation of its VR headset lineup in the form of the Vive Pro and permanently slashed the price of the original Vive bundle.
