Sony is rolling out a new update to the Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs, and the Xperia X Performance devices. The update is actually the April 2018 Android security patch for all three devices, designated with the build number 41.3.A.2.107, which bumps up the firmware version from 41.3.A.2.99. It remains unclear, however, what other changes have been added as part of the update since there’s no word about it, so it is likely that this is probably just a security patch which also includes some optimizations and improvements for the devices.
It is, perhaps, worth pointing out that the update is being delivered to the Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs, and the Xperia X Performance handsets in a gradual manner, which means some users may not expect to receive the security patch immediately, but it will probably be arriving sooner than later. The update is also hitting the unlocked versions of all three handsets first. Keep in mind as well that while it is likely that the update may bring with it a host of other changes to the three phones, it is safe to assume that the release won’t be introducing new features. In addition, it is quite not clear how big the file size for this update is, though it is not expected to be that large given that it is generally just a security patch. However, it is still wise to ensure that the devices eligible for the update are connected to a Wi-Fi network once the update will be downloaded and installed. Users will naturally receive a notification on their devices informing them about the security patch. It is also possible to download the update manually by heading over to the Settings app and then selecting the update menu. Now it remains to be seen when the April 2018 security patch will hit other Xperia devices.
As a quick recap, the Xperia XZs was launched in February last year during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, featuring a 5.2-inch full HD TRILUMINOS display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core SoC, and Android 7.0 Nougat. The Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ are the older of the three, with both devices having been unveiled back in 2016.
