bxActions App Enables Users To Remap Bixby Button

The bxActions application allows users to remap the Bixby button on a number of Samsung Galaxy devices, and it can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store. Through the app, users can remap the Bixby button to any one of more than 30 different actions, including triggering the Google Assistant, switching between different sound profiles, launching applications, taking screenshots, or turning on the flashlight. On the app’s listing, the developers further noted that users have the option to set different actions depending on whether or not the phone is locked or unlocked. In addition, the application enables users to skip tracks by pressing the volume buttons of the smartphone while the handset’s screen is turned off.

In order to utilize the application, owners of Samsung Galaxy devices should first download the bxActions app from the Google Play Store. The application does not show advertisements, although users have the option to donate to the developer through an in-app purchase option. After installing and opening the bxActions app, users will have to grant several permissions which enable the application to remap the Bixby button. The application also informs users that they should first finish all the steps of the Bixby app setup process before they could remap the Bixby button. For people who have previously disabled the Bixby button, the app also reminds them to re-enable the button before using the application. Once all the necessary permissions are granted, users will then be able to remap both the Bixby and the volume buttons through the application. Users also have the option to temporarily stop the application on the app’s user interface.

The developer of the bxActions app further added several reminders on the application’s listing on the Google Play Store. According to the developer, users should first verify if the bxActions app is compatible before they update the Bixby app or the smartphone’s firmware. This is important since Samsung may choose to block the application in future operating system updates in order to prevent users from remapping the Bixby button. Moreover, people are also advised by the developer to quickly press the Bixby button in order to properly trigger the action.
