Evan Blass aka @evleaks, has just shared some new info on Twitter, suggesting that LG’s upcoming smartphone will be called the LG G7 ThinQ, not the LG G7. Now, Mr. Blass did not exactly say that straight up, but he implied it by tweeting the following: “Goodbye, LG G7. Hello, LG G7 ThinQ”. Having said that, our own source reached out to us to corroborate this info, which gives it even more credibility. This naming scheme would be quite surprising if LG did not already announce a phone which has the ‘ThinQ’ brand attached to it, the LG V30S ThinQ, which arrived earlier this year.
The ‘ThinQ’ branding stands for AI features, basically. For example, the LG V30S ThinQ ships with some camera-related AI features which let the phone use various algorithms to brighten up images, and try to improve on them in general. The LG V30S ThinQ is also capable of recognizing various scenes for better image tuning, while the QLens functionality allows it to scan QR codes and recognize items. The LG G7 ThinQ will definitely ship with such features as well, hence its name, though very few people expected the company to change the name of its upcoming flagship. Pretty much everyone expected LG’s upcoming flagship to be called the LG G7, so this new naming scheme definitely comes as a surprise. It seems like LG is trying to attract more attention to its flagships by using the ‘ThinQ’ brand, as the company is focusing more and more to AI.
Speaking of the launch, it is worth saying that the LG G7 ThinQ is expected to arrive by the end of this month. The newest report from Korea claims that LG plans to unveil its new flagship at the end of this month, while the phone will go on sale starting in May. The LG G7 ThinQ will sport a display notch, if rumors are to be believed, while the phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, much like a number of other flagships that were announced already, or will be announced in 2018. The LG G7 ThinQ will probably ship with Android 8.1 Oreo, with LG’s custom UI on top of it.
