The Motiv Ring is now compatible with the Android operating system through a new open beta program. When the fitness tracking ring was launched last year, the device is only compatible with iOS. Now, users with Android smartphones may now download the Open Beta version of the Motiv app from the Google Play Store in order to take advantage of the wearable. However, unlike the iOS version of the Motiv app, the Android application only supports a limited set of features, including steps and activity tracking, sleep tracking, resting heart rate tracking, and last heart rate. Moreover, the Open Beta application can only work on a limited number of Android devices, including the Google Pixel, the Pixel 2, the Pixel 2 XL, the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 Plus, and the Galaxy Note 5. However, the device maker noted that a more comprehensive set of features will become available on the Open Beta program by the end of June 2018. Among the features that the beta version of the Android app will likely gain by the end of the first half of 2018 include the ability to edit or view individual activities, the capability to track Active Minutes, and the capacity to track restlessness while the user is asleep.
The manufacturer also announced that the Motiv Ring is now integrated with Amazon Alexa. By integrating with the retail giant’s virtual assistant, users may now ask Alexa to answer questions related to the health metrics measured and recorded by the fitness ring. At this point, Alexa can only answer questions regarding data syncing and heart rate, although the device maker said that the virtual assistant will gain the ability to answer questions related to sleep duration and other health metrics in the near future. Last but not the least, the manufacturer also announced that the Motiv Ring is now available on Amazon and on the national retailer b8ta.
When the device was launched last year, the Motiv Ring is available in seven sizes, and it can be purchased in either Slate Gray or Rose Gold color variants. The device sports an optical heart rate monitor, an integrated accelerometer, and a Bluetooth sensor, and it also includes a lithium-ion battery that can be charged in less than 90 minutes.
