The Motorola Moto G6 Plus comes with a glass back, dual camera setup on the back, a ton of camera-related features, and a gesture-based UI navigation, which is optional.
The Motorola Moto G6 Plus is one of three Moto G6-branded smartphones, and much like the other two phones, this is a mid-range handset. The Moto G6 Plus is the most powerful Moto G6-branded handset Motorola introduced today in Sao Paulo, Brazil, though. The other two devices that landed are the Moto G6 and the Moto G6 Play, which we’ll cover in separate announcements on the site. Having said that, the Moto G6 Plus is made out of metal and glass, while it sports a dual camera setup on the back, much like the Moto G6. This handset has been leaking for weeks now, and we’ve also seen quite a few Moto G6 Plus-related rumors out there, and most of them were actually spot on, especially those design leaks. In any case, in this article, we’ll go over every aspect of the device, so if you’re interested in getting the Moto G6 Plus at some point, read on. The first thing we’ll talk about, are the phone’s specifications, as per usual.
Motorola Moto G6 Plus Specifications
The Moto G6 Plus sports a 5.9-inch fullHD+ (2160 x 1080, 407ppi) Max Vision display, while the device is fueled by the Snapdragon 630 64-bit octa-core processor. This chip is clocked at 2.2GHz, and the Adreno 508 GPU is included on it. A 3,200mAh battery is also included in the phone, and it is not removable, while it does come with fast charging, Motorola’s TurboPower fast charging, to be exact. Motorola has announced 4GB and 6GB RAM variants of the Moto G6 Plus, both of which comes with 64GB of expandable storage. The device comes with two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM), and it sports a Type-C USB port on the bottom. Speaking of ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack is also included here, which may surprise some users, but it seems like Motorola is sticking with the 3.5mm headphone jack, despite the fact a number of other OEMs already ditched it.
12-megapixel (f/1.7 aperture, 78-degree lens, 1.4um pixel size) and 5-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture, 79-degree lens) cameras are included on the back of this handset, along with a dual-LED, dual-tone flash. A fingerprint scanner sits on the phone’s front side, and that’s where you’ll find the device’s 8-megapixel front-facing snapper (f/2.2 aperture, 80-degree lens). Bluetooth 5.0 is also a part of the package, and so is NFC. The phone does offer support for 4G LTE connectivity, and band support will differ from one region to the other, of course, as the Moto G6 Plus will become available in a number of regions. The device measures 160 x 75.5 x 8mm, while it weighs 165 grams. Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on the phone, and it’s an almost stock version of the software. The Moto G6 Plus is also p2i-rated, which essentially means that it comes with a water-repellent coating which is supposed to protect it from splashes and rain.
Motorola Moto G6 Plus Design
The Motorola Moto G6 Plus is made out of metal and glass, it comes with a glass back (Gorilla Glass), and its frame is made out of metal. The phone does not exactly sport extremely thin bezels, and its bottom bezel is actually noticeably thicker than its upper one, as it hosts a front-facing fingerprint scanner. Now, above that fingerprint scanner, and below the display, lies the company’s branding, while Motorola’s logo can be found on the back of the Moto G6 Plus. A microphone is located next to the fingerprint scanner, and the device’s display sports rounded corners. The Moto G6 Plus comes with on-screen buttons, while all of its physical keys are located on the right side of its body. The back side of the device is curved, and as you can see, there are two cameras located on the back, and they’re horizontally-aligned inside of Motorola’s recognizable ‘oreo’ camera setup. Below the two cameras, you will notice a dual-LED, dual-tone flash, while both the cameras and that LED flash protrude, they’re not flush with the phone’s back side. A noise-canceling microphone sits on the bottom of the phone’s back side, and the SIM card tray is located on the left. Interestingly enough, Motorola has decided to include a front-facing LED flash on this handset as well. The device comes in Deep Indigo and Nimbus color variants.
Motorola Moto G6 Plus Cameras
Unlike the Moto G6 Play, the Moto G6 Plus comes with two cameras on the back, 13 and 5-megapixel snappers. The phone’s 13-megapixel camera comes with an f/1.7 aperture, 1.4um pixel size, and a 78-degree lens, while the 5-megapixel snapper offers an f/2.2 aperture, and sports a 79-degree lens. An 8-megapixel camera is included on the phone’s front side, and we’re looking at an f/2.2 aperture here, and an 80-degree lens. The device features what the company calls ‘Dual Autofocus Pixel technology’, which is supposed to offer extremely fast object focusing times. ‘Selective Focus’ is yet another feature Motorola talked about, as you can change the focus of your image after you take the image itself, while you can also play around with black and white images if you want. The Moto G6 Plus software will let you to easily put some color to your black and white images. It is also worth noting that the Google Photos app comes pre-installed on the phone, that is something the company also emphasized during the press event.
Motorola Moto G6 Plus Battery Life
Motorola has decided to include a 3,200mAh (capacity) battery inside of the Moto G6 Plus, and this battery is not removable. Now, it was expected that the phone will ship with a non-removable battery due to the glass back that it sports. In any case, the Moto G6 Plus does come with fast charging, you will be able to utilize Motorola’s TurboPower fast charging technology (15W charging), as was the case with some of the company’s previously-released handsets. Having that in mind, the Moto G6 Plus does come with a fullHD+ display, and in addition to the power efficient Snapdragon 630 64-bit octa-core processor, that battery pack should be able to provide you enough juice until the end of the day, even if you’re a heavy user. The phone’s software will play a huge part in that, though, so Motorola has hopefully optimized Android Oreo well for the Moto G6 Plus, and it definitely helps that there’s no bloatware on top of Android, both in terms of performance and battery life. TurboPower charger is included in the box, in case you were wondering, so you won’t be required to buy any additional equipment in order to take advantage of fast charging.
Motorola Moto G6 Plus Software
Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on the Moto G6 Plus, and you’re getting a stock-like experience here, well, for the most part. Android 8.0 Oreo build on the Moto G6 Plus looks like stock Android, though Motorola did add some of its features on top of Google’s operating system. In the ‘Security’ section, you’ll be able to find more info about the gesture navigation that has been implemented in the phone’s fingerprint scanner, and the company has also included its very own application for the camera. Inside of that app, you will be able to find a ton of various modes that you can take advantage of, which we’ve already talked about in the camera section. Other than some of Motorola’s additions, you’re getting stock Android, with all of its Oreo features. During the press event, Motorola did not mention when will Android 8.1 Oreo hit the Moto G6 Plus, but it is expected to arrive in the near future, as Android 8.0 Oreo is not the latest version of Android.
Motorola Moto G6 Plus Security
Along with standard phone-unlocking methods, such as PIN and pattern, which are a part of Android, the Moto G6 Plus also offers a fingerprint scanner, while it also supports facial recognition. Now, in order to utilize facial recognition, the device uses the phone’s front-facing camera, it does not have any additional sensors that are included just for that purpose. As far as the device’s fingerprint scanner is concerned, we’re looking at a capacitive fingerprint scanner here, and interestingly enough, it is not used only as a fingerprint scanner / home button. You can actually use this fingerprint scanner instead of your regular on-screen buttons, if you swipe left on it, you’ll go back, if you swipe right, you’ll access recent apps. It is worth noting that facial scanning is not as secure as the phone’s fingerprint scanner here, so keep that in mind.
Motorola Moto G6 Plus Pricing & Availability
Motorola said that all Moto G6 handsets that were announced today will become available in the UK on May 2, and that their pricing will start at £119, which is probably the price point of the Moto G6 Play. The company did not share the price point of the Moto G6 Plus just yet, at least not for the UK model, as the phone will cost €299 in most of Europe. The device is priced at R$1,599 in Brazil, which translates to $470. The device goes on sale in Brazil starting today, while it will arrive in Mexico next week. In the coming months, it will hit a number of other markets, including Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and North America. The Moto G6 series will have a starting price point of $199 in the US, in case you were wondering.
