The OnePlus 6 Android flagship will support a “slide to focus” functionality that will allow its owners to utilize the device’s Alert Slider as a focusing mechanism, according to the latest product teaser posted by the Chinese phone maker earlier today. The short video that can be seen below doesn’t reveal much about the feature, though the thereof is likely to be binary in nature, i.e. trigger a process of refocusing the handset’s camera whenever a user flips the Alert Slider of the device up or down while having the default Camera app open.
The Alert Slider is a signature feature of OnePlus-made devices and allows users to quickly change between different sound profiles at any point using a physical switch, regardless of whether their Android smartphone has its screen turned on or not. The unique hardware has already been repurposed by a wide variety of custom ROMs for previous OnePlus handsets but OnePlus has yet to expand on it in an official capacity. The “slide to focus” functionality will likely be optional, as is the case with most OxygenOS features which users can usually disable at will. The Shenzhen-based original equipment manufacturer started teasing the OnePlus 6 earlier this week, with the company already confirming its next flagship will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip and as much as 8GB of RAM, with its most premium variant also being set to arrive with 256GB of internal flash memory, though the new mobile lineup is still likely to lack a microSD card slot.
The OnePlus 6 should have a physical footprint that’s no larger than that of the OnePlus 5T but will offer more display real estate and a screen-to-body ratio of approximately 90-percent which was made possible with the addition of a display notch, as per the company’s recent statements. The smartphone is expected to be announced late this month or come early May and should go on sale following a short pre-order period, as has been the case with most other product releases from OnePlus.
