Sony had recently introduced its Xperia XZ2 flagships, and while we’re waiting for the next Sony-branded handset to arrive, a rather interesting concept has surfaced. The concept in question is called the Sony Xperia A (2018), and it comes from a YouTube channel called ‘Science and Knowledge’. That being said, Sony had never introduced an Xperia A-branded handset, so this phone is basically not inspired by its predecessor, or anything of the sort, it’s purely fictional.
This concept phone seems to be a combination of Sony’s old design language, and the new one. The phone offers a boxy design, though its bezels are not that thick. Sony’s logo is included in the top-right corner of the phone’s front side, while its front-facing camera sits in the top-left corner. The phone’s top bezel is thicker than the bottom one, and a 3.5mm headphone jack sits on the top of the device, and it offers his-res audio output. Two cameras are included on the back of this concept handset, while the phone also sports something called ‘S-Force’, a stereo output, as the designer also envisioned front-facing speakers on this handset. Those front-facing speakers are visible right above and below the display, and they fit the design of the phone really nicely. All the physical keys sit on the right-hand side of this phone, including not only power / lock, volume up, and volume down buttons, but also a dedicated physical camera shutter. The Xperia branding sits on the back of the device, and the phone’s sides are rounded.
Specs were not provided by the source, which was to be expected, as this is a concept smartphone after all. Sony may introduce Xperia A-branded smartphones in the future, but they almost certainly won’t look like the phone you’ve just seen, as this is a concept smartphone. Having said that, Sony did change its design language quite a bit with the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact, so it remains to be seen what will the Xperia XZ2 Premium look like, if Sony ends up announcing that phone in the coming months.
